In 1997, the City of Sanford
and Downtown Sanford Inc had a joint vision for a park in Sanford's
historic downtown that would highlight the city's roots while giving
people a clean, relaxing place to come together.
After much hard work, that vision was realized in Depot Park.
The park includes the Railroad House, the Railroad Depot, and the surrounding land - which has been shaped into a unique and inviting landscape with picnic tables, benches and fountains that encourage people to meet in downtown Sanford for work, play, or simply to relax in a peaceful environment.
The City's Buildings and Grounds department maintains Depot Park. The department's staff keeps the park in impeccable condition by regularly fertilizing and mowing the grounds and pruning the shrubbery, as well as removing all litter from the grounds and emptying the trash receptacles twice per week.
The department is also responsible for the park's fountain. Staff members monitor the fountain each day to ensure its pH and chlorine levels are correct and that the filter system is in good working order. The department also cleans the tanks and operational system each month.
Anyone with questions or concerns about routine maintenance or the fountain should contact the Facilities/Beautification Administrator.
