The City Clerk is appointed by the City Council. The City Clerk records all official actions of the Sanford City Council, maintains official City records, provides proper notice for all meetings regulated by the North Carolina Open Meetings Law, and processes applications for itinerant merchant’s (peddler’s) licenses. The City Clerk serves as secretary to the City Manager.

A certified municipal clerk, Bonnie first came to the City of Sanford in 1989 as a secretary for the Public Works Department and in just a few years, she was promoted to secretary to the City Manager. In May of 1997, Bonnie became the Deputy City Clerk. Her hard work and dedication to the City resulted in a promotion to City Clerk in December 2000.

In May 2007 Hal Hegwer was appointed the City of Sanford's 4th Manager in 36 years.


City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month in City Hall's Council Chambers at 7:00pm.


All Council meetings are aired on Channel 11, the city's government access channel, on Charter Communications for one week following the meeting at 3pm, 6pm, & 10pm.
