StreetFest & Fireworks Cancelled; New Series Announced

Downtown Sanford, Inc. (DSI) regrets to announce the cancellation of the annual Downtown StreetFest and Fireworks Festival, scheduled for October 10, 2020.

DSI Executive Director Kelli Laudate made the recommendation to the Sanford City Council at its May 5, 2020 electronic meeting. Laudate stated, “this recommendation did not come lightly. Many factors played a role in the decision made, but the biggest factor was the safety and well-being of our community.”

The DSI Board and Laudate look forward to working with the festival steering committee in planning a celebration of Sanford to be held on October 9, 2021.

In the meantime, Laudate encourages the community to attend the Sanford Farmers’ Market that will take place every Saturday until November 21, 2020.

In addition to the market, DSI will host the Downtown Alive Second Saturday Series beginning June 13, 2020. The new series is in partnership with the market to provide an avenue for the community to spend the day in downtown; visiting the market, shopping, dining in the restaurants with a few surprises thrown in monthly.

Sharon Spence, current chairperson for the DSI board of directors hopes the new addition in the Downtown Alive series will help put a spotlight on local businesses. “The DSI board of directors is thrilled to showcase all the wonderful things Downtown Sanford has to offer through this must-see visit downtown series,” said Spence.
