Chief Wayne Barber currently holds the position of Fire Chief at Sanford Fire Department. Chief Barber was promoted on August 18, 1995 after Chief Floyd Caviness’ retirement.

Chief Barber’s tenure with the department began on February 14, 1975 as a firefighter. He was promoted to Engineer on February 23, 1977. He continued in this position until the promotion of Lieutenant on August 06, 1982. His next promotion came on December 21, 1983 as Captain. In March of 1989 he was promoted to Assistant Chief, and on August 18, 1995 he was promoted to the current position of Chief.
