Adults older
than 65 are twice as likely to be killed or injured
by fires or falls, compared to the population at large.
By age 75, that risk increases to three times of the
general population - four times at age 85. In response
to these preventable deaths and injuries, the National
Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention developed Remembering
When to address fall and burn injuries among seniors.
The Sanford Fire Department and EMS Agency conduct the
program for various senior groups throughout the city.
By utilizing discussion, trivia quizzes and handouts
the program uses nostalgia to help develop important
information in a fun and interactive setting.
