Helping you to preserve Housing Standards in your community, designed to inform you of the main objective of the City of Sanford's Minimum Housing Code; to provide an overview of the requirements and an outline of enforcement procedures.

The Minimum Housing Code was created to protect the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City by establishing minimum standards of fitness for the occupancy of all buildings used for human habitation.

The Housing Act passed by Congress in 1949 gave new motivation to existing local, state and federal housing programs directed towards the elimination of sub-standard housing.

The City of Sanford Minimum Housing Code was adopted. Since then there have been many amendments to the Code in an effort to advance our goal of preventing the spread of housing deterioration and decadence of communities.
