Progressive Neighborhood Program

*This program is currently suspended due to limited staff and monetary resources.

The City of Sanford initiated the Progressive Neighborhoods Program to provide residents within each neighborhood the ability to address issues that affect the long-term livability of their neighborhood as well as, strengthen, stabilize, and protect the neighborhood.  Neighborhood planning is achieved by a community’s efforts to develop a plan, which has been created to respect the history, character, and unique identity of the neighborhood, subsequently assisted by the City.  Even though the program as been temporarily suspended due to limited staff and monetary resources, the department encourages neighborhoods to organize and begin the process.

Neighborhood planning is community driven, with the City providing support to neighborhoods that come together to develop a desired future for their neighborhood and create a plan to achieve it.  The plan is based on citizen participation and it will vary with each neighborhood in terms of organization, content and results.  The residents and property owners of each neighborhood are encouraged to work together to identify the neighborhood’s concerns, to prioritize the concerns, and to develop a plan that address the concerns.  Each plan will respect the history, character and unique identity of the neighborhood.

Anyone wishing to get more information about the neighborhood planning process may contact our Revitalization Planner at City Hall or call 919-775-8240.
