Appearence
Commission of Sanford To formulate aesthetic,
scenic and visual standards for the City upon approval
of the City Council, to develop and sponsor events,
conduct inspections, and assessments and to make recommendations
to the City Council regarding urban design and enhancement.
Further, the Appearance Commission shall plan and
develop initiatives, particularly within the city's
corridors and gateways that promote visual quality
of Sanford.
Board
of Adjustment Hears and decides appeals
from any review, order, requirement, decision, or
determination made by an administrative official charged
with enforcement of the City Zoning Ordinance. The
Board holds such meetings as may be considered necessary
by the Board at such times and places that may be
designated by the chairperson.
Historic
Preservation Comission of Sanford
Sanford/Lee County Development provides staff support
for The Sanford Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
The HPC works to protect Sanford’s architectural
heritage by nominating properties and districts to
the National Register of Historic Places, and establishing
local historic districts where residents desire protection
of their neighborhood’s historic resources.
Sanford has four National Register Historic Districts,
Downtown Sanford, Rosemount McIver Park, Hawkins Avenue,
and Lee Avenue. Property owners in National Register
Districts are eligible for state and federal tax credits
for substantial rehabilitation projects, which are
approved in advance by the State Historic Preservation
Office. Sanford’s two Local Historic Districts
are Downtown Sanford and Rosemount McIver Park. Meetings
are held the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 P.M.
in the West End Conference Room, City Hall.
Housing
Appeals Board Provides a process whereby
owners or occupants of residential structures may
appeal decisions of the Building Inspector concerning
orders issued for repair or demolition and public
health nuisance abatement. The four members and one
alternate member of the Board of Adjustment who are
appointed by the City Council are designated to serve
as the Housing Appeals Board for the Building Inspection
jurisdiction of the City in accordance with G.S. 160A-360
and Ordinance No. 1999-30 and amended Ordinance No.
1999-35. Meetings are held the third Monday of each
month at 6:00 P.M. in the West Assembly Room, City
Hall.
Joint
Planning Commission To introduce text
amendments, plans (such as but not limited to: Comprehensive,
Transportation, Small Area) providing for a smoother
process for the separate government entities of the
county in consideration of adoption of said amendments
and plans.
Lee
County Economic Development Corporation Engages
in activities which stimulate the economic development
of the County of Lee by fostering and promoting business
and industry; developing commerce and trade; and inducing
the location of manufacturing, industrial, and commercial
enterprises in said county; and to engage in any lawful
act or activity for which non-profit corporations
may be organized under Chapter 55A of the General
Statutes of North Carolina. A regular annual meeting
of the Board of Directors shall be held at the office
of the corporation on the second Wednesday of July
at 4:30 P.M. The Board of Directors may provide by
resolution the time and place, within or without the
State of N.C., for the holding of additional regular
meetings of the Board. Special meetings of the Board
of Directors may be called by or at the request of
the chairman.
Lee
County Environmental Affairs Board Promotes
policies and study issues related to environmental
concerns of Lee County. Meetings are held the fourth
Wednesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. at the Lee County
Government Center, Hillcrest Street.
Planning
Board Makes studies and recommend plan
policies, and ordinances relating to the growth and
development of the City and to make recommendations
concerning proposed conditional use permits and proposed
land use ordinance and zoning map amendments. The
Planning Board meets with the City Council every third
Tuesday each month at 7:00 P.M. and at other times
on a called basis. Public hearings are held in the
Council Chambers; business meetings are held in the
West End Conference Room, City Hall.
