Fats, Oils, and Grease Program

Goal

The City of Sanford's "FOG" Program has been in effect since 2003. The program's goal is to prevent the accumulation of fats, oils and grease in the sanitary sewer system.

Purpose

The purpose of this program is to enable the city to comply with applicable federal/state laws.
The program also aids in the prevention of sanitary sewer destruction, blockages, and obstructions from the contribution and accumulation of fats, oils, and grease into the sanitary sewer system from industrial or commercial establishments, particularly food preparation and serving facilities.

Participation

The City currently has 227 commercial facilities participating in the program. Each year more traps are installed and inspected and more than 800,000 gallons of grease containing fluids are removed through routine maintenance.
