History of Renovation

In 2018, the City of Sanford and Lee County Government partnered to redevelop Kiwanis Family Park, located at 1800 Wicker Street.

Plans for the renovated park included a splash pad wrapped by a half-mile walking trail along with an inclusive playground, new shelter, updated restrooms, public art, and an expanded parking.

Funding

The project was funded with the $2 million Parks and Recreational bonds approved by voters in the 2013 Bond Referendum. An additional $350,000 was provided by a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant.

Progress

The upgraded park opened to the community in August 2019.

Park Maintenance

Only the splash pad and the playground area are maintained by the City of Sanford. Lee County continues to maintain the park's greenway, fitness and walking trail, existing covered shelter, uncovered picnic area, and gazebo.
