The City of Sanford has partnered with Lee County Schools to offer the third annual Sanford Youth Academy.
The program will run the week of July 22 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for boys and girls in rising seventh grade enrolled in Lee County Schools. The camp will be held at East Lee Middle School and is limited to 15 participants. Lunch and a snack are included.
The Sanford Youth Academy will offer insight into the City and County first response departments, including the Sanford Police Department, Sanford Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Lee County Jail. The program also will offer recreational opportunities for youth to engage in positive leadership and team building experiences.
The goal for the Sanford Youth Academy is to strengthen relationships between local youth and first responders, while also exposing youth to potential career paths. Applications are available in the guidance office at the local middle schools and on the City’s website here.
“Lee County Schools is excited to partner with the City of Sanford to offer seventh graders the chance to explore potential career paths while developing their leadership skills and building positive relationships both with the community and their peers,” says Dr. Shannon Shuey, Middle School Curriculum Specialist for Lee County Schools.
