The City of Sanford has published its Popular Annual Financial Report, which summarizes the City’s financial activities for the last fiscal year.
The purpose of the report is to provide a user-friendly and easy-to-understand the financial information contained in the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). While the ACFR is 160 pages and filled with very detailed financial data, the PAFR is just 24 pages and highlights the information thought to be most helpful in understanding the City’s financial position.
The City of Sanford began producing the Popular Annual Financial Report in 2015 following a Sanford Citizens’ Academy participant’s request that municipal financial data be offered in a more visual and less intimidating format.
“Sanford City Council uses this financial data to make decisions about how to prioritize our budget,” says Finance Director Beth Kelly. “We want to present the information in a way that makes the reasoning behind those decisions transparent and accessible to all.”
The City of Sanford PAFR has earned the Government Financial Officers Association's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting each year. This prestigious national award recognizes conformance with the highest standards of preparation of state and local government popular reports.
The report can be accessed on our website here. Physical copies can be picked up in the lobby of the Sanford Municipal Center, located at 225 E. Weatherspoon Street.
