Food Truck Ordinance Now in Effect

City Seal

The City of Sanford has passed an ordinance to guide how food trucks operate within city limits.

The ordinance affects mobile food vendors, which includes any licensed, motorized vehicle or food unit that sells food, drink, or other consumable products. These vendors may operate as a food truck, food trailer, food cart, or other similar mobile or temporarily parked vehicle.

Effective February 1, mobile food vendors must complete and submit a Mobile Food Vendor application to the Planning Department along with a $50 fee. This application and fee permit the vendor to operate within the City for one calendar year. Vendors should also notify Lee County Environment Health when operating anywhere in the county, including inside city limits.

Private businesses, organizations, and other groups planning special events with multiple food trucks must obtain a Temporary Use Permit, notify the Sanford Police Department, and check with the Fire Marshal’s Office to ensure are safety requirements are met.
