Appearance Commission Requests Proposals for New Public Art

Public Art

The City of Sanford Appearance Commission public art sub-committee is currently accepting proposals for a commissioned sculpture and mural for Hawkins Walk.

The subject matter for both the sculpture and the mural is “Flora and Fauna of the Piedmont,” and should include natural elements that are specific to Sanford and Lee County. The sculpture will be installed at the entrance to the complex and the mural will be installed on the property.

The Public ART Sub-Committee will review proposals and make a recommendation to the Appearance Commission. The sculpture shall also be approved by the property owner.

Proposals must be submitted by March 15, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Both pieces must be installed no later than May 30, 2024.

Artists may submit proposals for one or both of the public art pieces. To be considered, artists must be from North Carolina or raised in Lee County.
