The Sanford/Lee County Planning Department has released the final draft of the amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) for new residential development, which includes both text and zoning map changes.
These updates are the final stages of an extensive process that began six years ago. The amendments are designed to guide new residential neighborhoods within the context of the adopted “Plan SanLee” Land Use Plan, which can be accessed at www.plansanlee.com.
The proposed changes to the UDO will bring land use and development regulations into closer alignment with the Plan SanLee vision. The plan focuses on high quality infill development and expansion of new development into growth areas designated for infrastructure improvements while protecting the unique character, quality of life, and natural resources.
Access the proposed UDO text and map amendments on the City’s website at www.sanfordnc.net/udo-amendments. All property owners in Sanford and Lee County should have a received a postcard mailer with a QR code that links to the same page.
Note: The public is welcome to leave additional public input on the final draft version using a form located on the website. There will also be an opportunity for public input through daily drop-in sessions on Thursday, March 7, and Tuesday, March 12, from 4 to 7 pm at the Planning Department, located on the first floor of the Buggy Building at 115 Chatham Street.
Once public input is complete and any final revisions are made, staff will announce subsequent joint public hearings with the City of Sanford Planning Commission and City Council to consider the new zoning map and text amendments.
After the Planning Commission reviews the amendments and makes a final recommendation, the changes will be presented to Sanford City Council for their consideration and final action.
