S3 Housing Connect to Hold PIT Count Trainings

S3 Housing Connect will host two volunteer trainings this month to prepare for the 2020 Point in Time Count of people experiencing homelessness.

Created as a homelessness task force, S3 Housing Connect seeks to bring together the needed resources to create a coordinated approach to ensure that homelessness is a rare, brief, and non-recurring experience.

The Point in Time Count is performed by volunteers under the direction of S3 Housing Connect each January to capture the experiences and needs the homeless population. That information is used to educate the community and improve services.

Trainings will be Tuesday, January 14 at First Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, January 22 at the Buggy Company Building at 12:00 p.m. They will last one hour. Volunteers only need to attend one of the sessions.

The Point in Time Count will be performed during the night of January 29. Volunteers will work in shifts locating, counting, and speaking with sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

The nonprofit is also collecting non-perishable pop-top canned foods, gloves, scarves, socks, etc to distribute during the count. Donations can be dropped off at First Baptist Church, the Buggy Building, or the Enrichment Center.

For more information or to register for a training, contact Rachel Picard at rachel.picard@sanfordnc.net or call 919-718-4656 ext 5543.
