Flag Ceremony on Thursday to Honor Vietnam Veterans

Veterans, their families, and all members of the community are invited to the Veterans Memorial at City Hall on Wednesday, March 29 for a special flag raising in honor of Vietnam Veterans Day.

The ceremony will begin at 12:00 p.m. and include a proclamation by Mayor Chet Mann. A special Vietnam Veteran Commemorative Flag will fly over Sanford alongside the United States and North Carolina flags all day.

The Private John Grady Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring the event to recognize, honor, and thank our Vietnam veterans and their families. The Lee County High School Junior ROTC will assist with the ceremony.

Vietnam Veterans Day is celebrated on March 29 each year to remember the date of the final withdrawal of U.S. troops from Vietnam in 1973. This is the City of Sanford’s third annual flag-raising event.
