Sanford Hosts Delegation from Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico

The Sister Cities Association of Sanford hosted a delegation from Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico during the first week of May.

The delegates were Jaime Espínola, Chief of Staff for Atizapán Mayor Ruth Olvera, and Alfonso Otero, economic development adviser to Mayor Olvera. They explored Sanford's educational, industrial, and cultural investments and spent time learning how our municipality operates.

The connection between Sanford and Atizapán de Zaragoza is the result of a longstanding friendship between the Jonesboro Rotary Club and Club Rotario Las Torres Satelite, which is based in the Mexico City region. 

A delegation from Sanford will visit Atizapán de Zaragoza for an official Sister City signing this June. Sanford will be the first city in the central NC/triangle region to formalize a Sister City relationship with Mexico.
