Bethany Stephens has been promoted to Financial Services Director for the City of Sanford.
Stephens is a graduate of Penn State University who joined the City of Sanford in September 2015 to serve as a senior accountant. She was promoted to Financial Services Manager in December 2023.
“Bethany’s dedication to providing sound and responsive financial management and her proven success in leading a team makes her an asset to both our organization and all the residents of the City of Sanford,” says Assistant City Manager Beth Kelly.
In her free time, Stephens can be found near a baseball diamond with her husband Adam cheering on their three sons who attend Lee County Schools and play for local travel and high school teams. “We moved to North Carolina for a change of scenery but have stayed in Sanford because it is a wonderful place to raise a family,” she says.
Her family and community are one of many reasons that Stephens is excited to serve as Financial Services Director for the City of Sanford. “Our previous directors and our department have a strong history of excellent stewardship of the public’s money; I want to continue that tradition and ensure a fiscally healthy city for everyone.”
Stephens began serving in the role as of January following the retirement of Glenda Rosser.
