The City of Sanford Parks Department is kicking off the new year with a full slate of programming to help the community make the most of Sanford’s municipal parks.
The department is bringing back the much-loved Summer Concert Series, with music filling both Thursday and Sunday nights. They’ll also host another Freedom Fest on July 4 to celebrate our nation’s independence.
However, several new offerings are in the works – and they’re all free. For example, the department will hold a Big Rig Adventure in February to allow families to explore a variety of vehicles, equipment, and tools used in park maintenance. To welcome the summer, they’ll hold a Beach Bash at the splash pad complete with live music, food, and prizes.
Lest downtown Sanford have all the fun, the Parks Department is planning “Busking in the ’Boro,” a street festival on Trade Street in Historic Jonesboro with live music, local talent, vendors, and more.
“We are excited to showcase the unique charm of this historic community,” says Sanford Parks Director Caroline Jeffries. “A street festival in Jonesboro is a great way to celebrate the creativity and culture that makes our city special.”
Starting the spring, park visitors can enjoy a variety of recurring events. The department is planning Yoga in the Park at Kiwanis Family Park and will bring outdoor screenings of popular cartoons on Saturday mornings. There will be craft pop-ups at each neighborhood park.
Together with Lee County Parks & Recreation, the department will offer the annual Egg-a-Palooza at Kiwanis Family Park on April 12 and movie nights at O.T. Sloan on April 11 and May 9 starting at 8:30pm each night.
For those who can’t make the planned events, the Parks Department has put together several independent activities, such as a walking challenge for January, a nature quest, and a park hopper adventure.
“We hope our residents and visitors will take these opportunities to connect, explore, and enjoy all that Sanford’s parks have to offer,” Jeffries says. “Whether it’s through music, fitness, or hands-on experiences, we want our parks to be a hub for community engagement and fun.”
