Essential Single-Family Rehab Program

Income eligible homeowners can receive up to $40,000 to make improvements to their home including, energy efficient roof replacement and other program approved repairs. To qualify, the applicant must own the unit or have legal lifetime rights and the household income must be below 80% of the area median income.

In addition, one or more full-time household members must meet the following criteria:

  • Elderly (62 or older)
  • Legally disabled
  • Veteran
  • Child six years of age or under living in the home with lead hazards

Urgent Repair Rehabilitation Project

Income eligible homeowners can receive up to $15,000 through a deferred, forgiven loan for emergency home repairs and modifications. To qualify, the applicant must own the unit or have legal lifetime rights and the household income must be below 50% of the area median income. 

In addition, one or more full-time household members must meet the following criteria:

  • Elderly (62 or older)
  • Legally disabled
  • Veteran
  • Child six years of age or under living in the home with lead hazards

If there are multiple programs available at the time of application, staff will decide which program suits each applicant. 

According to the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency project guidelines, applicants must complete the application paperwork with every new program.
