Fire Department

The Sanford Fire Department is staffed 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The department protects over 34,000 people and its jurisdiction covers more than 33 square miles.

In charge of the department is Chief Matthew Arnold, whose office is located in Station 3. Chief Arnold works a day shift, and is assisted by an administrative assistant. Assisting the Chief with the protection of Sanford is a full-time membership of 69 employees across 4 stations -- and growing!

  • Central Fire Station is the home of Engine 1 and Truck 1. Each apparatus is staffed with 4 personnel. There are three shifts, rotating through a 24-hour assignment (7am – 7am). Also working out of Central Fire Station is the Assistant Chief of Operations, the Shift Battalion Chief, and the Training and Standards Battalion Chief.

  • Fire Station 2 is the home of Engine 2, staffed with 4 personnel. There are three shifts, rotating through a 24-hour assignment (7am – 7am).

  • Fire Station 3 is the home of Engine 3, staffed with 4 personnel. There are three shifts, rotating through a 24-hour assignment (7am – 7am). Fire Station #3 is also the administrative office, housing the Fire Chief and Administrative Assistant. Our Assistant Chief of Risk Reduction/Fire Marshal and the Fire Inspector are also housed here.

  • Fire Station 5 is the home of Engine 5, staffed with 4 personnel. There are three shifts, rotating through a 24-hour assignment (7am – 7am).
