Compost Facility

The City operates its own compost facility located at the Public Works Service Center. Quality wood chips and leaf compost are offered at a reasonable price to the public. Leaf compost is not topsoil; however, it can be used as an enhancement to topsoil.

PLEASE NOTE
Wood chips and unscreened compost are available for purchase.
No screened compost available until July.

Compost Purchasing Process

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Sanford prefers that the public pay for compost using Visa or Mastercard (debit/credit). This contactless option allows faster and more efficient service.

Contactless Payment

Customers can order and pay for their compost by phone using Visa or Mastercard. Call the Public Works Service Center at 919-775-8247 to get started.

Staff will work with delivery customers to schedule the next available opening. Customers planning to pick up their order will be given instructions on how to do so.

Cash/Check Payment

Customers who need to pay with cash or check must first visit the Customer Service Department located at 225 E. Weatherspoon Street.

Staff will collect the compost payment and instruct customers on how to pick up their compost.
