[ARCHIVED] Lee County Phone System Experiencing Outages Due to High Call Volume for Vaccine Registration

Lee County Government

The following information is being shared on behalf of Lee County Government as a benefit to City of Sanford residents.

Lee County Government (LCG) Health Department opened vaccine registration to include individuals in Group 4 of the North Carolina vaccine rollout plan beginning this morning Monday, March 8, 2021.  Due to overwhelming call volume, the county phone system experienced a systemwide outage.  The outage did not impact 9-1-1.

In order to resolve the phone system outage, IT staff had to shut down the vaccine call center.  In order to restore service to the call center that will allow the system to handle the high call volume, a new phone number has been established.  The new Lee County Vaccine Registration Call Center number is 919-842-5744.  This is a permanent number change.  Individuals that would like to register in Spanish may still call 919-718-4640 option 8.

Please note that the call center will also close at 4:30 PM to ensure there is ample time to process callers in the queue at the end of the day.  The new hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 4:30 PM.

Additionally, the Health Department has temporarily closed online registrations due to the number of registrations received this morning.  Online registrations will remain closed until staff has the opportunity to work through the more than 1500 registrations submitted.

For additional information about COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, email the Lee County Health Department at health@leecountync.gov or call 919-718-4640; media questions may be directed to Jamie Brown with Lee County Government at 919-718-4605 or jbrown@leecountync.gov.
