A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation has begun work on a multi-lane widening project on Broadway Road in Lee County.
Boggs Contracting Inc. is currently clearing, grubbing, and adding erosion control devices as preliminary work for the nearly six-mile widening of N.C. 42/Broadway Road between U.S. 421 Business in Sanford and downtown Broadway.
The $62 million project will improve safety and mobility for drivers using this primary connector between the two towns.
This initial step is expected to take several months. Crews can begin working on utility installations through the winter months and roadway work is expected to begin in the spring.
Motorists can expect occasional lane closures and traffic shifts as needed as the work progresses.
