The City of Sanford invites everyone to join in the celebration of its sesquicentennial year this Saturday at a 150th Birthday Bash at the Sanford Lions Club Fairgrounds.
The Lee County High School Marching Yellow Jackets and the Temple Teen Ensemble will help kick off the day at the Opening Ceremony, which will start at 10:30 a.m. in the Exhibit Hall. After remarks and special recognitions of past and current leaders, attendees will sing Happy Birthday to Sanford and cut a birthday cake.
The Temple Teen Ensemble, Tuesday Night Music Club, Soultriii, Southern Lee High School Theatre and Marching Cavaliers, and the Lee County High School Show Choir will perform on the main stage. A second stage in the midway will feature magic shows, face painting, a balloon artist, and performances from Lee County Schools students.
The midway will host a touch-a-truck packed with fun vehicles and equipment from the City of Sanford Public Works, Sanford Fire Department, Sanford Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. State Highway Patrol, FirstHealth EMS, and GFL Environmental. The National Guard will be onsite with their famous inflatable obstacle course and basketball shoot.
Throughout the day, there will be history displays in the Exhibit Hall, train rides, hayrides, a cow pull, inflatables, a petting zoo, antique tractors, and more. Attendees can purchase commemorative sesquicentennial merchandise from Visit Sanford. Options include t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, coins, and a poster.
Free birthday cake and ice cream will be available while supplies last. Lazy J’s Concessions, Tacos El Primo, Sweetie’s Raspados, and Funnel Cakes by Tonio will offer refreshments for purchase.
