The City of Sanford is seeking public input from residents, business owners, property owners, and the broader Sanford community to complete a Downtown Sanford Small Area Plan which will serve as a comprehensive guide for development over the next 15 to 20 years.
“The goal of this plan is to foster economic growth and encourage high quality land development within the Downtown Municipal Service District and surrounding area,” says David Montgomery, the City’s long-range planner.
The final plan will include recommendations on urban design and public space, parking, transportation and mobility, and development regulations.
There are multiple ways for the public to provide initial input to create a community-supported vision for the future of the downtown area. The community can attend the first of three workshops on Thursday, September 26, from 6pm to 8pm at the First Presbyterian Church’s Harper Center.
Secondly, the City has created a survey to provide an opportunity for respondents to share their thoughts about the future of Downtown Sanford and adjacent neighborhoods. The survey is available here.
Staff encourages the public to participate in both input opportunities. See all information on the downtown plan here and follow the process on the City’s projects hub here.
