[ARCHIVED] Youth Camp Returns to Sanford Municipal Golf Course this July

Sanford Youth Golf Camp

The Sanford Municipal Golf Course will host its annual Youth Golf Camp from July 14 to July 17, offering local youth ages 9 to 14 an affordable, welcoming introduction to the game of golf. The camp will run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Led by First Assistant Course Manager Jack Radley and Second Assistant Course Manager Anthony Cicogna, both former campers themselves, the camp blends instruction, mentorship, and fun.

“The camp means a lot to us personally. It’s where we first learned the game, and now we’re in a position to give that same opportunity to a new generation,” says Radley. “Our goal is to make every child feel welcome, especially those who’ve never picked up a golf club before.”

Campers will learn the basics of putting, chipping, and full swing techniques, while also being introduced to golf etiquette and the rules of the game. As the week progresses, participants will advance from practice greens and ranges to on-course play. Snacks and lunch will be provided daily.

No prior experience or equipment is necessary. Campers only need to bring themselves. “If you’ve got clubs, bring them. If not, we’ll provide everything,” Radley says.

While learning the sport is important, Radley emphasizes that the camp offers much more. “Golf teaches more than just technique. It’s about self-discipline, accountability, and respect. And it’s fun,” he adds. “We want these kids to leave feeling confident and excited about the game.”

The Youth Golf Camp takes place at the Sanford Municipal Golf Course, a scenic 18-hole course originally designed by famed golf architect Donald Ross in 1934. With fairways lined by pines and views of Buffalo Creek, the course offers a classic North Carolina golf experience right in the heart of Sanford.

Registration is $100 per child and spaces are limited. To register or learn more, call the Pro Shop at 919-777-1901. For more information, visit www.sanfordnc.net/golfcamp.
