[ARCHIVED] City of Sanford Responds to Executive Order 142

City Seal

On May 30, Gov. Roy Cooper signed Executive Order No. 142 to extend the prohibition on utility shut-offs and implement a moratorium on evictions in response to the ongoing impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The extension took effect immediately and lasts for 60 days.

In response to Executive Order No. 142, the City of Sanford is suspending disconnections and fees for late payments on residential accounts through July 29, 2020.

During the next 60 days, customers are strongly encouraged to make reasonable attempts to pay to reduce the amount owed and provide protection from the financial stress of a large balance due later.

Upon request, payment plans will be available to all residential customers seeking extensions on bills due March 31, 2020 through July 29, 2020. Customers will have the opportunity to opt-in to a payment plan after July 29, 2020 to pay off any balances accumulated during this period. Customers will have at least a 6-month period to make payments.

No provision in the Executive Order relieves customers of their obligation to pay bills for receipt of utility services.
