At its June 1 meeting, Sanford City Council approved the City of Sanford’s budget for fiscal year 2021-2022, which includes new rates for water services.
The City’s water rate will increase by 12 percent and its wastewater rate will increase by 6 percent, effective on July 1, 2021. View the new rate schedule here.
The rate increases are necessary for repair and maintenance of the city’s existing water and wastewater lines, as well as to keep up with demands on water services brought by Sanford/Lee County’s tremendous residential and commercial growth.
Part of the water rate increase will fund an expansion of City’s water filtration facility. “Our facility is currently operating with demands that exceed 80% of its permitted capacity,” explains city manager Hal Hegwer. That is the level at which regulators recommend facilities begin the expansion process.
Along with the rate increases, the FY 2021-2022 budget increases the tax rate by $0.02. The sanitation fee remains $310 and the vehicle tax remains $30 per vehicle/trailer. View the FY 2021-2022 Budget Ordinance here.
