The City of Sanford will hold a public information session on Monday, June 20, 2022, to provide education and answer questions about a proposed System Development Fee Ordinance.
If passed, the ordinance would assess a one-time charge when a customer taps onto the water/sewer system. The fee is set to recover a proportional share of capital costs incurred to provide service availability and capacity, which is authorized under North Carolina General Statute 162A Article 8. This fee would be in addition to existing water and sewer tap fees.
The ordinance is based on a system development fee report prepared by independent consultant Raftelis Financial Consultants, Inc. Read the report here. Exhibit 4 (page 6) explains the maximum cost justified for the various sizes of meters. Read the proposed ordinance here.
City staff will share information about the proposed ordinance and answer any questions on Monday, June 20, 2022. The info session will be held in Council Chambers of the Sanford Municipal Center, located at 225 E. Weatherspoon Street, starting at 6:00 p.m.
