Drivers on Third Street and sections of Horner Boulevard this week may have noticed sidewalk reconstruction at several intersections.
This work is being performed by the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to ensure curb ramps on Third Street and Horner Boulevard meet the compliance standards set forth in the Americans with Disability Act (ADA).
The project is a partnership between NCDOT and the City of Sanford to ensure ADA compliance throughout the city limits of Sanford.
Contractors began work on Third Street on Monday, with several intersections already completed. Traffic on Third Street is not impeded, though drivers will not be able to turn onto streets with active work sites.

Work has also begun on Horner Boulevard. Traffic will be reduced to one lane at affected intersections as necessary. The following intersections on Horner Boulevard are scheduled for curb ramp improvements:
- Weatherspoon Street to St. Clair Court
- Cole Street
- Simmons Street to Third Street
Residents may notice debris piles at the work sites. These piles will be removed by NCDOT.
This curb ramp improvement project should be complete by early November.
